For the last sixteen years the Dog has tried to avoid politics and religion in this blog. But today I remembered, nobody reads it anyway. I'll also admit upfront that I am biased against people who exploit others for their own gain.
So, alas, the humor of the current situation wore off some time ago and the concern for our country has continued to grow. The political escapades of recent times, and the true shit show of the 2026 State of the Union, tripped too many triggers.
The Dog does not align with any political party mantra. Dog's political standing is that of an FDR Democrat, Eisenhower Republican, & Meany Unionist. And, as a Marine Corps Sergeant during Vietnam, a pacifistic idealist with a strong sense of world reality. And, if you don't understand those terms you're part of what I'm referring to in the next paragraph.
Donald Trump's major accomplishment during his time has honestly been the unmasking of American ignorance. And please understand this, Dog does not define that by the level of a person's education. (See post of January 13, 2026). I am extending the definition of ignorance to include social and cultural norms, family values, common sense, and understanding of reality. Kinda like my Dad would say, "use your head for something besides keeping your ears apart."
For example, his blatant manipulation of the American economy for personal gain is almost fascinating to watch. Tariffs? Sure, let's impose them - and watch the stock market drop. Oh wait, let's take them off or lessen them, and watch the market go up. You don't need a degree in economics to understand the concept of "buy low and sell high". And, no, I don't think he personally does it, but I do believe his big money backers do, and the organizations that he, or his "family", are part of do it... and he somehow gets a big slice. And, I am certain that many of his MAGA are doing the same thing, consciously or through their investment vehicles.
Google "predatory capitalist", it's a very popular pursuit now days. Trump defines it. PS - we live in a capitalist country, but never this predatory.
Trump has always shown an amazing ability to blatantly spew lies, racism, sexism*, and yes, fascism. Challenge him and he doubles down with more lies and attacks the challenger for destruction. All done with the intent to keep America** divided and everyone beneath him fighting among themselves. Then he openly plays them against each other. That's an old style of "management" that wouldn't be tolerated in most workplaces these days.
The fascinating part is to still have millions saying he's great. That exposure is truly unbelievable to the rest of the world... and true Americans.
The idea that anyone would vote for a draft-dodging, openly racist, convicted felon, sexist, who does all of the above and then some, boggles the world mind. He doesn't qualify for the lowest form of security clearance, yet he now has access to all of America's everything.
America has always had challenges in politics and infighting among factions, but never to the extent of recent times. Trump rules as a monarch/czar/dictator and no one does anything. His control of congress is bizarre to watch. The standing joke is, "if Trump says SHIT, over 500 toilets flush in congress".
What's going to happen? That's the sad part. No one knows. When November elections come to time, no one can say they will actually happen. The idea that he may manipulate some things, lie about others, and then issue an "executive order" to delay or cancel the mid-terms is, for the first time in 250 years, a growing reality. Doubt it? Watch closely. I hope I'm wrong.
And, lastly know this, Representative Democracy (our form of government) can be self-destructive, and is unique in that it can be destroyed by its own mechanisms. Case in point, we elect leaders who dismantle its institutions. And, you don't need a degree is political science to know that's happening.
